Patio Cost Calculator

Estimate patio installation cost by size and material: concrete, pavers, flagstone, stamped concrete or gravel, compared side by side from Angi's 2026 data.

3. Removing an existing patio or slab?

Demolition and haul-away of an old surface is real site-prep cost most quotes list separately -- check this if there's an existing patio or slab to tear out first.

Patio cost depends far more on the material you pick than on how the shape is measured, so this calculator prices the SAME area across every material at once -- concrete, pavers, flagstone, stamped concrete and gravel -- so you can see the real spread before committing to one.

How it works

  1. Measure your patio as a rectangle, circle, ring, triangle or trapezoid, or enter the square footage directly if you already know it. An L-shaped patio is two rectangles added together -- run the calculator once per section.
  2. Pick a material to see its price highlighted, or just read the comparison table for every material at once.
  3. Each material loads a national per-square-foot range, which you can overwrite if you already have a local quote.
  4. Read the total range and the comparison table together -- the gap between "cheapest" and "priciest" for the same footprint is usually the most useful number on the page.

Porcelain / travertine pavers$15 – $50The premium paver tier -- dense porcelain slabs or natural travertine stone, priced above standard concrete pavers for the material and finish.Estimated premium-tier range, priced above Angi's concrete paver figures -- no dedicated Angi guide (see note above)

Why the same patio costs 4x more in one material than another

A 200 sq ft patio in gravel might run $600 at the low end; the same footprint in flagstone can top $7,000. That gap is not a pricing error -- it reflects real differences in material cost, installation complexity and labor time. Gravel needs minimal prep and no skilled setting work. Flagstone is cut or fitted stone, laid by hand, piece by piece, often on a mortar or sand-and-gravel base that itself takes a day or more to prepare. The comparison table above exists specifically so this gap is visible before you fall in love with a material you have not priced yet.

What drives the range within a single material

Even inside one material, Angi's 2026 national data shows wide bands: concrete alone spans $4 to $30 a square foot depending on whether it is a plain broom finish or a decorative stamped and stained surface. Flagstone spans $3 to $35, since it covers both cheap, locally-quarried stone and expensive imported or precision-cut stone. Pattern complexity, edging, base depth, drainage requirements and simply which region you are in all move the number within a material's range, on top of the material choice itself.

Stamped concrete: the middle ground

Stamped concrete exists specifically to sit between plain concrete and real stone or pavers: a poured concrete slab textured and colored to mimic flagstone or brick, at roughly $9 to $22 a square foot -- more than plain concrete, less than the real materials it imitates. It is a reasonable choice if you want the stone look without the stone budget, though it will not read as convincingly close-up as the genuine article.

What this estimate does not include

This is a material-and-labor installed-cost estimate, not a full project budget. It does not include demolition of an existing surface, drainage or grading work, a permit if your municipality requires one for hardscaping, or add-ons like a fire pit, seat wall or outdoor kitchen built into the same footprint. Add those as separate line items when comparing contractor bids -- a quote that is higher than this range is not automatically overpriced if it includes work this calculator does not price.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to build a patio?

Nationally, a patio runs about $3 to $35 per square foot installed depending on material, which puts a typical 200-300 sq ft patio anywhere from roughly $700 for basic gravel to $10,000 or more for premium flagstone. Enter your own dimensions and material above for a number specific to your project, or check the comparison table to see the same footprint priced across every material at once.

How much does a concrete patio cost?

About $4 to $30 per square foot installed, according to Angi's 2026 data. A plain broom-finished slab sits at the low end; decorative stamped, stained or exposed-aggregate finishes push toward the top.

How much does a paver patio cost?

Roughly $8 to $25 per square foot installed. Pavers are individual units set in sand, which makes them easier to repair one at a time than a poured slab, and gives the widest style selection of any hard material here.

How much does a flagstone patio cost?

Between $3 and $35 per square foot -- the widest range of any material this calculator covers, because it spans cheap, locally-quarried flat stone through expensive imported or precision-cut stone. It is generally the premium choice among the natural materials.

How much does stamped concrete cost?

About $9 to $22 per square foot installed. Stamped concrete is poured concrete textured and colored to mimic stone or brick, priced between plain concrete and the real stone or paver materials it imitates.

How much does a gravel patio cost?

About $3 to $8 per square foot installed, the cheapest option this calculator covers. Gravel needs minimal site prep, but it is a loose surface rather than a solid one, which makes it better suited to a low-traffic seating area than a heavily used dining space.

What is the cheapest patio material?

Gravel, at roughly $3 to $8 per square foot installed. Poured concrete is the cheapest solid, walkable surface, starting around $4 per square foot for a plain finish.

Pavers vs. concrete: which is better for a patio?

Pavers cost more per square foot on average but are individually replaceable if one cracks or stains, and offer far more pattern and color choice. Poured concrete costs less and installs faster as one continuous surface, but a crack or stain affects the whole slab and repair means patching rather than swapping a unit. Choose pavers for style and long-term repairability, concrete for the lowest all-in cost.

How much does a 12x12 patio cost?

A 12x12 patio is 144 sq ft. At Angi's 2026 rates that runs roughly $500 to $5,000 depending on material -- about $500-700 in gravel, $600-4,300 in concrete, $1,150-3,600 in pavers, or $430-5,000 in flagstone. Use the calculator above with 12 ft x 12 ft entered to see the exact range per material.

Does this price include the base and site prep?

The per-square-foot rates are Angi's installed cost, which typically includes standard site prep and a base layer as part of a normal quote. It does not include demolition of an existing surface, drainage or grading beyond what a standard install requires, or permits -- add those separately if they apply to your project.

How much more does flagstone cost than pavers?

Flagstone's range ($3-$35/sq ft) is both wider and generally higher than pavers ($8-$25/sq ft), largely because flagstone is natural, irregular stone that takes more skilled labor to fit and set than a uniform manufactured paver. At the low end the two can be similar; at the high end, premium flagstone costs well over double what high-end pavers run.

Is stamped concrete cheaper than pavers?

Usually, yes, at the low end -- stamped concrete starts around $9/sq ft versus $8-25 for pavers, so their ranges overlap, but stamped concrete's ceiling ($22/sq ft) sits below pavers' ceiling ($25/sq ft). Stamped concrete also installs as one continuous pour rather than individual units, which is faster but means a crack affects the whole surface rather than one paver.

How do I measure an irregular-shaped patio?

Break it into simple shapes and add the areas together -- an L-shaped patio is two rectangles, a patio with a curved edge might be a rectangle plus a half-circle. This calculator also takes circles, rings, triangles and trapezoids directly, or a straight square-footage entry if you already know the total.
